I've been blindsided!

In the midst of a world that people seem to only be concerned for themselves I have to say that this past weekend I was blindsided by the movie "The Blind Side". I went as a concerned parent because my tween daughter wanted to go with her girlfriends (I went as the unwelcomed parent who sat alone to make sure 3 middle schoolers would be ok in the movie theater), I wasn't really interested in the movie, I hadn't read the book and for the most part I thought I'd enjoy my popcorn and call it a day for parenting. Well, I have to say that it's a good thing I didn't sit with the girls because I ended up crying through the whole movie -it was that touching (plus I cry easily).

"The Blind Side" depicts the story of Michael Oher, a homeless African-American youngster from a broken home, taken in by the Touhys, a well-to-do white family who help him fulfill his potential. At the same time, Oher's presence in the Touhys' lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own. Living in his new environment, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. As a football player and student, Oher works hard and, with the help of his coaches and adopted family, becomes an All-American offensive left tackle.

Michael Oher's story and the story of the Touhys' left me feeling that in the midst of the craziness of this world one person really can change the world even if it is only for one person. One action really can make a difference. That love can conquer all, that when we say that we are Christian it really does mean something. Now I know and I have seen miracles like Michael Oher's happen but no ones ever written a book about it or made a movie about it but here's the miracle upon miracle, the theater I sat in on Saturday was full. People are watching this movie and maybe just maybe through this movie someone might wonder what it means to be a Christian or maybe they might just look at things a little different and maybe, just maybe, a miracle will happen.

So where have you seen miracles? Where have you experienced a simple act of Love? How have you been inspired recently?

Full of grace...just not very graceful,

Jill-- I can't wait to see this movie. I am bringing a box of tissues. I cry at almost every episode of Friday Night Lights and Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, so ths movie has my name all over it.

Lian,
Seriously take the kind with lotion in them because otherwise you will come out with a red nose like a certain reindeer. I do think though it is an amazing story and really makes us think about what is important in our lives.
